Most people arrive at their session a little nervous. Not for themselves — for their dog.
They worry their dog will be too distracted, too excited, too unpredictable. They apologize in advance for behavior that, in Caitlin's experience, almost always produces the most extraordinary images.
A dog mid-leap. A dog nose-deep in tall grass. A dog spinning back to check that you're still there.
These are not problems to manage. They are the portrait.
Every Kindred Canine session is built around your dog's natural energy and the environments they love most. Sessions are unhurried — roughly an hour, in a location chosen together, with no agenda beyond being present with your dog in a place that feels like them.
Caitlin does the rest.
This work is about more than photography.
Dog owners understand something that is difficult to explain to anyone who hasn't felt it: the particular weight of loving an animal who will not be here long enough.

Beyond the lens
She has Indi, her Boston Terrier at home — which means she arrives at every session already fluent in the language of dogs who don't listen and ears that don't stay up for the camera.
Her favorite place to photograph is in Kenne Valley. There's something about the light there in fall that she has never been able to fully explain, only show.
She still shoots documentary work alongside Kindred Canine, under her wedding company Caitlin Miller Photography — because the instinct to observe rather than direct is not something you turn off.
She believes the reveal appointment is the best part of the job. Watching someone see their dog in a portrait for the first time never gets old.
